Winter returns
Cold morning, new snow, gray skies
Active birds sing jubilantly
Lovely song of a tufted titmouse
Geese argue in the distance
Chunks of snow fall softly from branches
Crunchy iced trails
Sun attempts to burn through the clouds
Snow stuck on vines that spiral up trees
Tree trunk surrounds another, as if protecting
Woodpeckers knock through the cold, snowy trunks
Prairie like a cotton field
Thistle donning snowy caps
Puffed robins flit and fly from ground to snowy brush
Tracks on a tree trunk that bridges across the valley
Palest of orange beech leaves quiver in the wind
Sun peeks enough once to sparkle snow
Purple iris buds push up through snow
Such soft beauty
