How Nature Notes by Kaki became a blog
Hello!
For many years I have been recording what I see in nature in two separate nature preserves in Cincinnati (the Cincinnati Nature Center and Grand Valley Preserve) using my favorite notes app. I started way back because so many things struck me when hiking or paddling in my favorite spots – I felt that I had to record these amazing little glimpses. The longer I recorded, the more interesting it became to see changes with every season, compare one spring to another, etc. I’ve kept these nature notes only for myself and despite rarely looking back in time at my notes, I always feel happy knowing I have such treasures. They are a part of me.
My catalyst for starting this blog came on the day that my favorite notes app failed me. I opened the “Nature Center file” only to find it empty – years of documentation completely gone! I decided to start over and keep it all recorded here so they never go missing again!
These posts are unchanged, unedited – just exactly what I record in nature on the day of my hike/paddle/etc. They include abbreviations that I use for which trail, which direction I hike and which paddle I use when paddling, etc. I think the paddling entries are slightly a different vibe because I often don’t have my phone so I have to remember everything I see and then note when returning to land (as opposed to jotting a note while hiking).
So, I am still just documenting these fleeting glimpses in nature for myself – but I’m glad you stopped by to check 1 or 2 out!
