Bright shiny green of lesser celandine
Birds of every kind excited with activity
New green filling in the lower forest floor
Lush, deep green carpets of moss
Creaks of fallen trees held in arms of stronger neighbors
Fuzzy sporophytes tinge moss-covered logs
Newly sprouting buckeye trees burst with energy
Fresh, sweet scents of damp Earth and new growth
Woodpecker’s hieroglyphics staped in fallen trees
Violets, Phlox push up through decaying leaves
Mayapple sprouts – ready to unfurl
White shelf-like scalloped mushrooms protruding off of logs
White-tailed deer leap logs of forest and bound over hills
Sweet, sweet intoxicating scents, lifting from the Prairie
Delicate white-with-pink Spring Beauties dot edges of the trail
Pinks of barely budding red buds mixing with faint greens
Textured sounds of wind and birds and creeks and trees
Daffodils beginning to lay down their leaves and foster in new life
