Wet Wood and Dripping Clay

5/15/2023, red R, 2:00-4:00

Cool and gray rainy spring day
Illuminated vibrant green canopy
Birds screech and call to each other
Cricket just emerging and beginning gentle chimes
Soft squish of trail underfoot
Strong scent of wet wood and dripping clay
Cardinal’s crimson easily spotted amidst the green
New shelf mushroom, big enough to sit upon
Ferns fully stretched open for the day
Spiderweb-crisscrossed trails
Thick sweet pollen fills the air
Sweet kissing bird call
Leaves, seeds and flower petals sprinkle the trails
High-pitched bird calls contrast deep, echoey knocking
Fragrance changes completely from place to place along the path
Centipede makes his way over rocks
Damp prairie bursting with floral scents
Flowering multiflora rose, black locust tree and blackberry bush
Creaking trees make themselves known
Bird song upon bird song deep in the forest
Clouds hold steadfast to keep sun from peeking through
Blue-black velvety sheen of fluttering butterfly
Refreshing, soaking energy
